Construction / Progress capture

3D Capture for Construction Projects

A dated, measurable record of your site at every stage: Matterport tours to walk and share, point clouds to verify, and gridlines and datums checked against the design. Captured in hours, delivered in 48, and kept as evidence for the life of the building.

Why construction teams capture the site in 3D

What we capture on a visit

When to capture

  1. Pre-start condition survey: Existing building and neighbouring property recorded before anything is touched. Dilapidations, party wall and tenant handback evidence, plus a point cloud for the design team.
  2. Structure and first fix: Captured once the frame, containment, pipework and cabling are in and before anything is boxed in. Gridlines and levels verified. The capture that saves the most money later.
  3. Milestone progress visits: Monthly or at each programme milestone. Same floors, same route, so every visit compares directly with the last and supports the valuation.
  4. Practical completion and handover: The as-built record: Matterport twin, point cloud and Revit model that match each other, tagged with asset information and transferred to the client.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does construction progress capture cost?

Matterport visits start from £495 for a floor or a small site, which covers the capture, processing and 12 months of hosting. Point cloud surveys start from £1,200 and scan to BIM from £2,500. Programmes of monthly or milestone visits are priced at a fixed rate per visit agreed before the first one, so the cost is known for the whole job.

How long does a capture take on site?

A typical office floor takes two to three hours for Matterport and does not stop the trades. Adding a laser scan of the same floor usually adds half a day. We work to your induction, RAMS and permit arrangements and can capture out of hours.

How accurate is it?

Matterport Pro3 tours are dimensionally accurate to around 1%, which is enough to check openings, service runs, clearances and ceiling heights. Laser-scanned point clouds are accurate to a few millimetres and are registered to the site gridlines and datums, so they can be used for setting-out verification and deviation reports.

Can you check the build against the gridlines and the BIM model?

Yes. The point cloud is tied to the project grid and level datums and compared with the Revit or IFC model, and we report deviations by element. Floor plans and the model can also be overlaid in the Matterport viewer for visual checks.

Who can see the tour and the data?

The Matterport tour opens from a link on any device with no software or login, and can be password protected or kept private. Point clouds and models are delivered in the formats your team uses, such as RCP, E57, LAS, RVT and IFC.

Do you need to be on site every month?

Most programmes are monthly or at milestones, but the schedule follows your programme. Many clients book the pre-start survey, a first fix capture before close-up, and the completion capture as a minimum, and add visits where a stage is complex or contested.
